TISSUE LIPID PROFILE OF RATS ADMINISTERED AQUEOUS
EXTRACT OF HIBISCUS ROSA-SINENSIS. LINN. |
| The effect of orally
administered aqueous extract of the leaves of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis
on tissue lipid profile of albino rats has been determined.
Consequently 20 albino rats were divided into 4 groups of 5 rats each.
They were given rats mash and water ad libitum for 4 weeks, during
which they were subjected to different dosages of the aqueous extract.
Group I (control) received an equivalent volume of water, group II,
200mg/Kg body weight of extract, group III, 500mg/Kg body weight,
while .... Click

GROWTH OF ALBIZIA LEBBECK (L.) BENTH., AND LEUCAENA LEUCOCEPHALA (LAM.) DE-WIT,
IN DIFFERENT SOIL COMPOSITIONS
OF KARACHI UNIVERSITY CAMPUS SOIL |
| The growth of Albizia
lebbeck (L.) Benth., and Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de-Wit, were
studied in soils collected from Karachi University area under natural
ecological circumstances. Various growth variables of A. lebbeck and
L. leucocephala were reduced from different soil composition (25, 50
and 75%) of Karachi University soil (sandy soil) as compared to Garden
soil. Growth of L. leucocephala in comparison of A. lebbeck was
significantly decreased in all of the proportions of University soil.
50% University soil caused diminution in a large number of growth
parameters of A. lebbeck, particularly considerable inhibition was
observed in plant height...Click

| PHYTOCONSTITUENTS ISOLATED
FROM PHOENIX SYLVESTRIS ROXB. |
| Five compounds were
isolated from the chloroform and butanol extracts of the male flower
inflorescence of Phoenix sylvestris Roxb. The structures of isolated
compounds were established as cholesterol (1), -sitosterol (2), -amyrin
(3), quercetin (4) and quercitrin (5) by .... Click Here to read more |

| SILDENAFIL CITRATE IN THE TREATMENT OF ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION ASSOCIATED WITH
HYPERTENSION |
Sildenafil citrate is a potent inhibitor of the
electrolytic enzyme type V phosphodiesterase (PDE5) in the corpus
cavernosum and therefore increases the penile responses to sexual
stimulation associated with erectile dysfunction (ED), which is a
common complaint for the patients with hypertension and those taking
antihypertensive agents. We evaluated the efficacy of sildenafil
citrate compared with placebo in treated and untreated hypertensive
subjects with established ED. In this study both the patients taking
and those not taking antihypertensive medications treated with 100
mg oral dose of sildenafil showed significant improvement than
placebo in the mean scores for the questions of the International
Index of Erectile Function (IIEF). Mean domain of ... Click Here to read

| CARDIOPROTECTIVE EFFECT OF
SIMVASTATIN ON DOXORUBICIN-INDUCED OXIDATIVE CARDIOTOXICITY IN RATS |
| The usefulness of
doxorubicin (DOX), a highly effective antitumor drug, is limited by
the risk of developing cardiomyopathy. Subcellular changes leading to
this toxicity are suggested to be mediated through a drug-induced
increase in free radicals and lipid peroxidation. The present study
was undertaken to investigate the possible protection that simvastatin
(SIM), a lipid-lowering drug, can offer against DOX induced
cardiotoxicity. DOX was administered to male Swiss albino rats in 6
equal interaperitoneal injections over a period of 2 weeks (cumulative
dose, 15 mg/kg). Protection from doxorubicin-oxidative injury was
investigated by administration of SIM (cumulative dose, 60 mg /kg) in
12 equal ... Click Here to read

| EVALUATION OF HYPOLIPIDEMIC EFFECT OF CITRUS LEMON |
| Herbs have been used
for several cardio vascular diseases, such as congestive heart
failure, hypertension, angina pectoris, atherosclerosis, arrhythmia,
cerebral and venous insufficiency. Atherosclerosis is the primary
cause of heart disease and stroke. Hence blood lipid levels are
probably the major determinant of the development of cardiovascular
disease. Citrus fruit and juices have long been considered a valuable
part of a healthy and nutritious diet. It is well established that
some of the nutrients in citrus promote health and provide protection
against chronic disease. The present study has been specifically
designed .... Click

| STRATOSPHERIC OZONE IN THE
PERSPECTIVES OF EXPLORATORY DATA ANALYSIS FOR PAKISTAN ATMOSPHERIC
REGIONS |
| In order to study
physical behavior of Stratospheric ozone in Pakistan’s atmospheric
regions (PARs), the Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) is performed.
Using this analysis Probabilistic and mean deviation models are
developed to study the ozone layer depletion for Pakistan Atmospheric
Regions. These models provided a comprehensive description of the
underlying process. The information .... Click

| TOXICITY OF IMIDACLOPRID (NICOTINOID) AGAINST EARTHWORM, PHERETIMA POSTHUMA WITH
REFERENCE TO ITS EFFECTS ON PROTEIN |
| Imidaclorprid was
studied for its effects on earthworm (P. posthuma). The organism was
reared in laboratory at 25 °C with relative humidity 80%, in whole
moist soil with compost / manure as food medium contained in wide
mouth jars covered with muslin cloth. Imidacloprid (Nicotinoid) was
used as test material. Earthworms were exposed to the under test
compound through contact method cum feeding method. Average
mortalities of imidacloprid were found to be 20, 40, 60, 70 and 80%,
against 0.04, 0.08, 0.16, 0.32, and 0.64 ppm respectively and LD50 was
determined statistically and found to be 0.11 ppm. Effect of this
pesticide on total protein content was determined in head, clitellum
and abdominal regions of treated earthworm P. posthuma. Protein ...Click

SANGHAR, SINDH, PAKISTAN |
| Present study aimed
to investigate some free-living medium-sized and large mammals of
Chotiari Reservoir and its environs, District Sanghar, Sindh. Mammals
belonging to two orders viz. Carnivora and Artiodactyla were studied.
Main reservoir, surrounding lakes, marshes, irrigated canals,
cultivated lands, sand dunes, southern edges of Thar Desert and human
habitations were studied as mammalian habitats. Evidences concerning
thirteen species of medium-sized and large mammals were obtained from
the complex. The results include data on species richness, abundance
and distribution, organized into species account.... Click
